Dupont pen: a piece of history, with 15% discount

Habits, design, elegance, charm, power. A pen can encompass all this. On the other hand, it is the door that opens to creativity, "an instrument of discovery rather than a simple recording tool", as the American poet Billy Collins states.

The pen, however, is first of all history. And we can say that it starts with the Egyptians. The first pen to write something on a papyrus was an empty straw with a small tip that was soaked in a gummy solution, mixed with coal dust and other plant substances: pratically, the first ink with which the hieroglyphs were written on papyrus.

The pen is intelligence and research. Its evolution enters the modern age in the first half of the nineteenth century with the introduction of the first rigid metallic nibs. It was the English journalist and publisher James Perry who, by applying cuts and punctures, then gave the nibs the elasticity necessary for writing.

The pen is art and with the famous French fashion house Dupont becomes design. The "Classique" pen, created for Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, is a striking example. In 1973 the former first lady of the United States had asked Dupont for a special pen, set in the front of his lighter. The maison decided to lengthen the existing lighter rotor, giving life to an iconic pen with a sober and essential design. Today, Classique is the only pen exhibited at the MoMA in New York.
