Topaz: the magic stone that lights up November

Topaz: the magic stone that lights up November

The ancient Egyptians thought that wearing it prevented diseases, while the Romans used to get in touch with their eyes closed. The ancient Greeks believed, instead, that obviously make invisible to the first steps. We are talking about the topaz, the precious stone protagonist of the month of November.

The origin of the name is uncertain and it is charged with mystery. According to some, it derives from the Sanskrit "Tapas" (fire, ardor). For Pliny, however, the origin is due to a "Topazon", windy island on the Red Sea, where similar stones have been found.Colorless, pure, aqua green, blue, yellow-brown. The red-orange-pink variety is called imperial topaz.

There is no shortage of curiosities about this mineral: in India it was thought to favor wisdom and discernment. Its use is varied and has no connection only with the jewelry, but it is possible to find it in particular abrasive sponges, sharpeners for knives and sanding machines. The largest ever found is a giant sample of about 2.5 tons, found in Mozambique.
