The origins

The origins of Mother's Day are as old as the earth we live on. Let's start from antiquity, where among the polytheistic populations there were numerous rites that celebrated the Mother Earth and the divinities linked to the rebirth of nature in spring. The Greeks celebrated the goddess Rhea, the mother of all gods, the great procreative, while the Romans celebrated Cybele, the deity symbol of nature and of all mothers. It is said that precisely for this reason, Mother's Day occurs in a spring month, when nature wakes up representing life and fertility.

The origins of Mother's Day in Italy are due to a Christian priest, a certain Don Otello Migliosi, who in 1957 celebrated this event for the first time. A few years later, Mother's Day officially became part of the Italian calendar. As in many other States, in Italy this festival is celebrated on the second Sunday of May: this year the appointment is for Sunday 12 May.

The worldwide success, this festival, owes it anyway to the United Kingdom, from which it first spread in the USA and then across the globe. Called "Mother's Day", it originally had a different meaning. On the fourth Sunday of Lent, all the children who, in the United Kingdom, worked to earn a living, could return home to their mother. From here the British "Mother's Day" developed: the children returning home brought flowers to their mothers celebrating their return to the family.

The meaning

Mother's Day embodies many meanings. The mother is the origin of our life, it is the strength of our family, it is affection, unconditional love. For this we must remember to respect it always and not only on the day of the party.

For example, to make this day even more meaningful, there is nothing better than expressing your affection through a special gift.
